Matali Crasset X Theo Eyewear
The collaboration of Belgian-brand Theo Eyewear with French designer Matali Crasset is the first of its kind! Theo's previous collaborations with artist Strook and designer Tim Van Steenbergen were fellow Belgians. The frames that have resulted from this partnership are breaking more than just one tradition.
Featuring unique combinations of materials, acetate and titanium, "The glasses are wide both horizontally and vertically," explaining Matali's title for the collaboration, Wide Open. Each of the twelve frame shapes has been named after a different personality characteristic, like Curious, Confident, & Impulsive.
These glasses are exceptionally hand-crafted, with balance and fit being a strong point in the design. Matali's experimental approach and Theo's masterly techniques pair harmoniously well. The colors have been kept subtle, at least in Theo's standards, allowing the strength of their unique shape to dominate.
To promote these inventive eye pieces, Matali Crasset has also released some inventive promotional videos on YouTube. I think these characters are asking us, "What are your frames saying about your personality?"
